Marilyn Monroe – Niagara “Kiss”
Niagara was one of 20th Century Fox’s biggest box office hits of 1953. Unlike typical film noirs of the day, it was filmed in Technicolor on location on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. This is the film which launched the Marilyn Monroe “look” that would forever remain her trademark, and also earned Marilyn critical praise for her performance. Over all, the film offers breathtaking shots of the Falls prior to its current state of evolution. Unfortunately, the cabin portrayed in the film was a set, but the hotel Marilyn and the rest of the cast stayed in during the filming, the Crowne Plaza (formerly called The Brock), still stands and proudly displays photos of the film in its lobby. Room 801 – or Marilyn’s room, as the staff fondly refer to it – is the room to book if you ever find yourself staying at the Crowne Plaza.
